Virtually an icon in the world of jazz, singer Mark Murphy began recording in 1956. At a point in his life when many artists would either retire or try to rehash past glories, Murphy continued to challenge himself and explore new styles. On 2007's LOVE, Murphy interprets the songs of such diverse talents as Alan Jay Lerner, Brit rockers Coldplay, country music legend Johnny Cash, and saxophonist/composer Oliver Nelson. The album also features vibrant, imaginative orchestral arrangements and a cameo appearance from another captain of cool, alto sax veteran Lee Konitz.
