In their interview they say they were pushed into doing another album, this is it. Jared is unwell with a chest infection during the live shots so the few songs on the dvd are not vocally his brightest.

Following on from the successful This Is War, it was safe to assume that the Letos and Milicevic would persevere in a similar vane, and LLF+D continues to depart from the more raw and ragged sound of their first albums. There is something for everyone on offer. The opening bars of Birth build up the anticipation, bursting into the energetic Conquistador, seguing into Up In The Air, before giving way once more to the sweeping ballad in City Of Angels. The energy is sustained by The Race and the sweeping notes of End Of All Days, before the haunting intermission of Pyres of Varanasi. Bright Lights immediately picks things up with what manages to be both wistful and uplifting, and Do Or Die continues along the same lines, making good use of fan contributions similar to, though smaller than Closer To The Edge from the previous album – hopefully a candidate for an ‘on tour’ music video once they take the album on the road. The rest of the album is more disjointed, with the instrumental Convergence seemingly out of place, perhaps best considered as something of an Outro. In which case, Northern Lights is an excellent encore with its powerful chorus, while Depuis le Debut is the backing track while the audience leaves for the carpark – I can't help but think that the segments that make up the track would have been better dispersed throughout the album, though really it does still work as something of a come-down track, easing one back into reality after an exhilarating 45 minutes. On top of the satisfying production of the music itself, the cover, jacket, and disc artwork stand out and let you know you have something special, and this Deluxe Edition also comes packaged with a DVD containing live footage and short documentaries that are well worth the negligible extra cost for an avid fan, though would also interest a more casual listener.

Description

The DVD contains footage from the 300th show and 2 mini docos.

Written and recorded around the world from Europe to India to the band’s studio in California, LOVE LUST FAITH + DREAMS was produced by front-man Jared Leto, with previous collaborator Steve Lillywhite (U2, The Rolling Stones, Peter Gabriel) co-producing four of the twelve tracks. As Jared says “this is more than an evolution, it’s a brand new beginning. Creatively, we've gone to an entirely new place, which is exciting, unexpected, and incredibly inspiring.”

In partnership with NASA, Thirty Seconds To Mars launched the first single from the new album into space. Literally. The first copy of ‘Up In The Air’ was recently carried aboard the SpaceX cargo mission to the space station.

The album cover features “Isonicotinic Acid Ethyl Ester” (2010 – 2011) from internationally renowned artist Damien Hirst’s Spot Paintings series. A second Hirst work, which is from the Colour Charts series, will appear on the CD itself.

Thirty Seconds To Mars – comprising of Jared Leto, Shannon Leto and Tomo Milicevic – has sold over five million albums worldwide and the band’s videos have more than 300 million views on YouTube. The group has received numerous awards, including a dozen MTV awards worldwide, a Billboard Music award and honors from NME, Kerrang! and Fuse.
