Description

While much of the reggae coming out of NZ is of the more ska or dub style, this debut from Unity Pacific (aka Tigilau Ness) is in the more traditional reggae roots vein. One of the founding fathers of NZ reggae, Tigi Ness is a long time reggae musician, committed rastafarian, poet, and father of Che Fu. Over a traditional roots backing (the Unity Pacific band includes members of Twelve Tribes Of Israel and ska outfit The Managers) Tigi Ness incorporates telling social commentary with his rich Pacific heritage, all the while paying respectful homage to the music and spiritual message of the great Bob Marley. The resulting album re-awakens the more traditional reggae sound of Aotearoa made popular by bands such as the Herbs, Dread Beat & Blood, Aotearoa etc.
