"Even better than ¡Uno!"

¡Dos! is the tenth studio album from Punk Rock band Green Day, and the sequel to “¡Uno!” as part “¡Dos!” of the “¡Uno! ¡Dos! ¡Tre!” Trilogy. This album continues the trilogy with an even higher level of entertainment and musical quality than ¡Uno! Green Day has only ever done one dedicated album intro song before, which was “Song of the Century” from “21st Century Breakdown”, ¡Dos! has “See You Tonight” a beautiful sounding minute long mix of acoustic guitar and Billie Joe Armstrong voice. This song sets up well for the 'real’ opening track of the record. “F*** Time” is the perfect way to begin this fun and exciting album, it has an excellent drum beat to start the song off, catchy lyrics (despite the repeated phrase “Oh Baby, Baby It’s F*** Time!”) and well-fitting solo. Following this is a similar sounding song “Stop When the Red Lights Flash” which not only featured in the recent racing game “Need for Speed: Most Wanted” but was also featured in an episode of CSI:NY, this is a fast paced song which is constantly building up to the final chorus, which despite simply being “I’ll make you surrender” repeated 8 times, is a fantastic way to end a great song. “Lazy Bones” is a complete change of pace and feels like a homage to Dookie’s “Longview”, although they sound nearly nothing alike the lyrics is what creates this shared feeling of laziness “I’m too tired to be bored/I’m too bored to be tired”. The tempo is reduced even further with “Wild One” which feels like a well deserved rest from the previous 3 songs, however the change in tempo doesn’t make the song any less of a punk rock song and it’s the solo which is the highlight of this song, creating a similar effect to that of the solo from ¡Uno!’s “Oh Love”. The tempo comes back up quickly with “Makeout Party” which sounds similar to ¡Uno!’s “Loss of Control” however “Makeout Party” feels less like a Loss-of-Control and more like a hardcore punk rock song, with a very fast and perfectly fitting guitar solo. The lead single from ¡Dos!, “Stray Heart”, originally intended for ¡Tre! is another example of an excellent Green Day love song about asking for forgiveness, well, repetition of “I’ll never stray again from you” makes it sound more like begging for forgiveness, fans of the Green Day side project “Foxboro Hot Tubs” will notice many similarities between “Stray Heart” and “Mother Mary”, particularly the bass line, chorus and solo which are all great in both songs. “Ashley”, a fast paced song with an exciting feel and one of the best in the record with its seamless solo and great lyrics like “Ashley! Are you running around-/Are you crying out in bloody murder-”. Arguably the best song from ¡Uno!, “Rusty James” gets an unofficial sequel in ¡Dos! called “Baby Eyes” the songs both have a powerful sense of 'epicness’ which from the sound of it follows in the eyes of member of the “Last Gang in Town” and a love interest, It has an excellent yet simple chorus “I say whoa/I’m out of control/Well Baby when I see your pretty face./I say whoa/God rest your fing soul/’Cause Baby, Baby I was born to kill.” and despite its mere 2 minutes and 22 second length it is my personal favourite track on ¡Dos! Nearing the end of the record, a track called “Lady Cobra” makes a very welcome appearance about meeting a fun-yet-odd girl named “Lady Cobra”. In ¡Uno! Billie Joe, Mike, Tre and newly appointed official member Jason White attempted something new with “Kill the DJ” as they have never done a 'Dance Rock’ song, in ¡Dos! they try something new again with “Nightlife” unfortunately this didn’t work out as well as “Kill the DJ” did, “Nightlife” features Lady Cobra from 'Mystic Knights of the Cobra’ who raps in the verses of the song, “Nightlife” isn’t a bad song, it fits the theme of the record perfectly, however still feels odd. The next track, “Wow! That’s Loud” is a nice return back to punk rock as we know to expect from Green Day even featuring a quick cut into and back out of a very fast guitar solo, something to be expected from The Who. The final track of ¡Dos!, “Amy” is Green Day’s tribute to the untimely death of Soul/R&B artist Amy Winehouse the song features only Billie Joe’s vocals and an acoustic guitar in a similar style to Nimrod’s “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” and Warning’s “Macy’s Day Parade”, despite it being an excellent song, and a great way to pay respect to the late Amy Winehouse the song feels out of place on the album and would have been better suited as a standalone single than as the final track of an album with an obvious theme of sex, drugs and alcohol. ¡Dos! continues the trilogy after the great opening from ¡Uno! with excellent hardcore punk songs like “F Time”, “Ashley” and “Baby Eyes” and some deeper, softer songs like “Stray Heart” and “Amy” all fans of anything Green Day related should own this album. The Trilogy will conclude with ¡Tre! on its new release date of December 7th.

Description

¡Dos! is the tenth studio album by the American punk rock band Green Day. It will be the second of three albums in the ¡Uno! ¡Dos! ¡Tré! trilogy, a series of studio albums to be released. (Warner)

Punk trio Green Day have been a bit on the serious side since their resurgence in 2004 for the rock opera album ‘American Idiot.’ That trend continued with their last studio release, 2009′s ’21st Century Breakdown.’ However, the band plans to go back to their less serious side with a trilogy of albums, appropriately named ‘¡Uno!,’ ‘¡Dos!’ and ‘¡Tré!’ Singer Billie Joe Armstrong says Green Day are going for more of a straight up rock record. They recently unleashed a sneak peek at the trilogy’s first album, and now they’ve released a trailer for ‘¡Dos!’ as well.

Armstrong sat down with Rolling Stone and told the magazine how the group wanted to go back to basics with the new discs. “The last two records were studio albums. This one, we started rehearsing every day, constructing these songs together,” Armstrong said. “It felt like we were all in a room jamming … everyone in the mix, throwing out ideas. If you listen to it, it feels grand. But it also feels like a garage band.”

That is indeed what Green Day are going for, judging by the new trailer for ‘¡Dos!,’ which you can watch below. The clip is only 34 seconds long, but it gives viewers an idea of what to expect from the band’s new releases. Look for ‘¡Uno!,’ ‘¡Dos!’ and ‘¡Tré!’ on Sept. 25, 2012; Nov. 13, 2012 and Jan. 15, 2013.(Difusser)
