Anarchia Total

Now in their 10th year, the Wellington-based Klezmer Rebs ethnic/European world music band have released their latest CD Anarchia Total recorded (mostly) live on one of the last days of the now defunct Ruby Lounge in
Wellington in November 2010.

Anarchia Total features classic klezmer tunes (Sher, Yoshke), some unconventional klezmer (a Yiddish tango and a klezmer western swing song Blue Klezmer Moon by Canadian David Kaetz) plus a rude Russian song, the classic crowd pleaser Minnie the Moocher, and a transformative remix by NZ DJ Cut Loose.

Anarchia Total captures the Klezmer Rebs playing in the true klezmer spirit with songs of joy, sorrow and rebellion.

(The title tune, a call to action written in five languages, was composed by clarinettist Urs Signer following his arrest in the so called ‘terrorism raids’ in October 2007. (He still faces serious charges along with 3 others). Urs features in the NZ documentary Operation 8 and he is described in a NZ Herald review of the Operation 8 film as “a Swiss activist anarchist clarinettist, whose woodwind stylings are clearly a danger to any decent society.”
