5 stars "the world through innocent eyes"

This book surprised me. I LOVE IT!!
The story is presented through the eyes of a young girl. Seeing the world through her eyes is such a a reminder of innocence and a time not so long ago.
Lovingly told and wonderfully written. One of my favourite books ever!

5 stars "An exciting experience in a subtle setting"

Told from the first person perspective of intially a 4 year old girl, this book really in fact targets readers such as young adults and older. Set in the 20th century in a small rural South America town, the themes in this book is no smaller than any other modern time and setting, if not, then more powerful and soulful.

"If you read only one book this year - make it this one."

A prize winning novel of its decade, To Kill a Mockingbird is a moving story through the eyes of a little girl as she grows. What she learns may also teach you – you will not be able to put this book down. It has become one of my all time favourites.

Description

'Shoot all the Bluejays you want, if you can hit 'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a Mockingbird.' A lawyer's advice to his children as he defends the real mockingbird of Harper Lee's classic novel - a black man charged with the rape of a white girl. Through the young eyes of Scout and Jem Finch, Harper Lee explores with exuberant humour the irrationality of adult attitudes to race and class in the Deep South of the thirties. The conscience of a town steeped in prejudice, violence and hypocrisy is pricked by the stamina of one man's struggle for justice. But the weight of history will only tolerate so much...
