"Amazing, as like everything from the South."
Cook books are easy to follow and produce great tasting food. This cook book brings out some well hidden secrets stored in The South Island which are Easy to follow and produce some amazing meals.
Being from the North Island I have never mixed some of these foods together and after trying these I may never return to my old recipes.
This book has been written and presented to a very high standard. If you have never been on the Speights Brewery tour in Dunedin then I would highly recommend making the trip, as these two products (the cook book and brewery tour) alone will prove the high standard the South Island produces.
When purchasing a cook book, make sure The Speights Southern Man Cook Book is on the high priority list, as unlike other cook books this produces recipes unique only to the South Island and the culture of the south which is like no other.
"All you'll ever need."
Very good practical cookbook. A huge number of healthy & hearty meals that are easy & cheap to prepare though some of the fancier stuff can be time consuming. Doesn't demand a whole lot of rare or expensive ingredients. Great for people who would like to make tastier meals on a reasonable budget.
"Good pub style recipes"
Purchased this recipe book for my fiance as he does a lot of hunting and fishing and we are always trying to find new ways to cook venison and fish. There are some really good recipes in here such as the seafood chowder, angus beef salad. The best by far are the shearers shanks and a close second would have to be southern spiced duck. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a good feed thats not too tricky to serve up.

I brought this for my brother who couldn't be more southern bloke if he tried – he lives in the deep south, hunts for wild pig and venison and has a rural job. What he does have a passion for though is cooking, especially when it involves something he has caught himself.
What an incredible cookbook! Perfect for husbands, sons, brothers, this is an absolute must for any bloke. Top notch photography complete with beer matches for dishes.
I couldn't think of a more perfect present for my brother, I think I will get one for myself! Two thumbs up to this little beauty.
