New Zealand Through the Goalposts

Photographer Fay Looney captures the essence of New Zealand heartland rugby in an evocative journey through the lens. Goalposts frame the scenic landscape, from the sun-drenched East Cape to windswept West Coast playing fields, from the hard pitches of the volcanic central plateau to the majestic views of mountains in the South Island. Fay's images are inspired by a passion for the game and well-known sports writer Phil Gifford adds his expert take on the rugby personalities, the sports grounds - and the goalposts. Pictured here are some of the game's legendary players, including Colin Meads, Tana Umaga, Waka Nathan and Richie McCaw - and youngsters with the dream of wearing a black jersey one day. Author Biography

Fay Looney has been photographing New Zealand for over 30 years. She was the first woman president of the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photographers and has won numerous awards including the Cathay Pacific Travel Photographer of the Year (2005). She is the author of New Zealand: Land of Many Contrasts and the highly successful It Must be New Zealand, both published by New Holland.
