Description

A characteristically colourful and quirky exploration of the weird and wonderful world of Dubai from acclaimed author of Where Underpants Come From , Joe Bennett

Boom town, modern marvel, commercial hub, where middle-east meets wealthy west, playground for tourists, crawling with ex-pats, built by Indians, owned by Arabs, Dubai has risen from next to nothing to an awful lot in little more than thirty years. How? And can it go on? Has it sold itself to the corporate dollar? Is it anything more than a mall in the desert? Will the sands return? Joe Bennett goes to find out.

‘Like a good explorer, he is thorough, roaming determinedly from waistband to sideseam and down to the darkest depths of leg elastic.’ The Age

About the Author:

Joe Bennett was born in Brighton and since leaving Cambridge University has taught English in a variety of countries, including Canada, Spain and New Zealand. He now lives in Lyttelton with his dogs, cat and chickens.
