Description

The tale of a year-long journey from straight-talking, hard-bitten journalist to green goddess – complete with fabulous recipes and experimental disasters – all told in a smart, funny and self deprecating fashion.

Wendyl Nissen is well-known as a straight talking journalist whose career has seen her edit top-selling magazines, produce ground-breaking television documentaries and take on talkback radio callers without batting a heavily made-up eyelid. But what happened when she let three chickens called Marigold, Hillary and Yoko into her life on 24 October 2008–

A Home Companion details Wendyl's year-long journey towards self sufficiency. The book details each home discovery as it happens – both the triumphs and the disasters – while Wendyl slowly sheds her corporate life and takes to wearing yards of muslin, leather sandals and forgets to straighten her hair.

A Home Companion is the book for any woman who finds herself yearning to get her hands covered in soil, rid her house of nasty chemicals, nurture her family and become a green goddess – even if it's just at the weekends.

5 stars "everyone should buy this"

This is so informative, full of ideas, recipes for all sorts of things to help be kinder to our environment, but also to help you not be so reliant on shops. Get back to basics, truly a fabulous book. I highly recommend it. I will now buy the rest of her books.

5 stars "Perfect. Just what I wanted."

My sister mentioned she had borrowed this book from the library and couldn't renew it because other people had requested it so I was thrilled to find it on Mighty Ape site at an extremely good price so bought it for her for Christmas. It arrived quickly and my sister is very happy – and so am I.

5 stars "LOVE LOVE LOVE fun, honest and great remedies and recipes"

Loved this book so much I didn't want it to end. Honest and real. Wendyl shares stories from month to month activities and going ons in her and families lives. BUT this incredibly easy read has simple and tested recipes and home remedies. After reading this book I felt very inspired and ready to become a home goddess too. After a honest, fun and also handy recipes give this book a read you wont want to put it down.
