For over 50 years, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has led the world in space exploration. Yet the boundless void that begins just 100 kilometres above us has been visited by no more than 500 people.
Now, 40 years on from the event that defined humankind's unquenchable thirst for exploration - the historic Apollo 11 moon landing - this visually stunning 6-part series reveals the majesty of space like never before, from the pioneering Project Mercury and the Apollo Program, through to the Space Shuttle launch and the International Space Station.
Narrated by Gary Sinise, and featuring rare interviews with legends Neil Armstrong, John Glenn, Jim Lovell and Buzz Aldrin, "When We Left Earth" explores the missions, the heroes, and the triumphs of space exploration in a depth of detail previously experienced only by astronauts themselves.
We can look up at space every day, but this disc really allows you to understand and appreciate just ho difficult it is to get up there, and to explore it the way we do. If you have any interest what so ever with space or science, this feature is for you.
These types of features are what make me happy I bought an HDTV.
An amazing collection of footage and interviews, enough to give you shivers down your spine!
Picture quality on disk 4 is considerably less than Disks 1, 2 & 3 which are great with the editing keeping interest.
The series is fantastic if you're into NASA documentaries, however, the HD content appears to be limited to a few recent interviews. The majority of the footage is upscaled film content which is very grainy. Not sure how the DVD version compares, but would expect it to look the same for the most part.
I never knew sending astronauts to space was a tough job. It's amazing the amount of risk these astronauts face. The main point of this documentary is to show us how NASA have developed each of the space missions in order to reach the Moon. This documentary also includes Neil Armstrong's journey! I am glad I bought this Bluray. :)
