Despite the movie being a fantastic reboot of the franchise, the nods towards the original series is fantastic.
The cast did a great job of keeping the quirks and mannerisms that we love from the 60's into the new franchise.
The quality of Picture and Sound is amazing, but JJ Abrams use of Lens flairs can get a little over the top in places.
The dark scenes show no banding and the light scenes, do not bloom.
Overall, a recommended purchase to show off your BD Player.
Weather you love or hate Star Trek, Star Trek XI is a movie that is great for any fan of the original series and all the new comers and former haters. Written and Directed by J.J. Abrams he brings the epicness and drama of a movie to a whole new level and having it on blu ray makes it all the better with all the bright colours and lens flares it really becomes something you want to watch over and over again.
The only thing i think i found bad with this movie is that i can't seem to find any new movies out giving me a wow factor anymore.
Recommend to anyone wanting a block buster for christmas
Fusing both elements of new and old, the reboot of the Star Trek series
manages to hit all the right notes, with great action, drama, acting,
storytelling and an excellent musical score to boot.
Even if you aren't a fan of the old series, give this film a go, it's an
awesome experience and looks even better in Blu-ray.
This movie is first class. Great combination of action, adventure, humour and special effects. There is not a boring minute in this film, you will feel and care about every character even the enemy. Zachary Quinto is a standout as a more edgie agressive Spock.
Really enjoyed this movie on how star Trek began, with cool special effects.
This movie is a fantastic introduction to Star Trek. The characters are strong, the action explosive and the special effects look fantastic on Blu-Ray
Great storyline, great cast, great everything pretty much. There really is nothing more to say.
These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise. It's ongoing mission: To explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before."
As most people know, Star Trek is a popular TV/Movie series which originated
in 1966. The 1982 film Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan is the only Star Trek
film I have seen and I have not watched the TV series so I'm definitely not a
fan. I don't have a lot of knowledge about the characters or know much about
the Star Trek universe. I was relieved to hear Star Trek: Zero is an origins
story. Director J.J. Abrams does an outstanding job at showing the audience the
chronicles of Kirk and Spock, but gets right in to the action with out it
becoming boring. Star Trek: Zero is one of the best science fiction epics
I have ever seen!
Stark Trek: Zero begins with an enormous space battle between a Federation
Starship (USS Kelvin) and the villainous and vengeful Romulans captained by Nero
(Eric Bana). I was astonished at the scale of the opening confrontation.
I even found my self holding my breath to survive the vacuum of space. In the
chaos Winona Kirk (Jennifer Morrison) gives birth to James T. Kirk (Chris Pine).
Years later we see James as a young troubled boy on earth. He is becoming a
rebel of society. At the same time we see intelligent and logical Spock (Zachary
Quinto) on his home planet of Vulcan. He is growing up through his school years
dealing with the pressure of having a human mother, which makes him prone to
human emotion.
Spock and Kirk enlist in Starfleet Academy. They join Dr Leonard McCoy aka Bones
(Karl Urban), Nyota Uhura (Zoe Saldana), Hikaru Sulu (John Cho) and the
remainder of the newly established crew aboard the USS Enterprise, piloted by
Captain Pike (Bruce Greenwood). On their first mission they encounter Nero and
his mining vessel which is drilling a hole in to the planet Vulcan. We are
treated to more astonishing action sequences and space skirmishes. Then
everything just goes mental and the film becomes Vulcan awesome.
The film is primarily focused on Spock and his unfortunate and horrific history
with Nero, while also addressing Kirk's rise to captain of the Enterprise.
The cast is huge and everyone is brilliant; Karl Urban's performance as Bones
was awesome. Simeon Pegg also stood out as the ship's humorous engineer Scotty.
Zoe Saldana as Nyota Uhura was excellent too, plus she is absolutely stunning.
Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto are perfect as Kirk and Spock – they really had
me believing in their characters and made me give a damn about them and the rest
of the crew with great character development throughout the film.
The whole film just looks amazing – from the set of the Enterprise to the space battles and fist fights. The lighting, especially the use of lens flares, made it feel like I was really there – it added another dimension to the film. Speaking of dimensions, this story takes place in an alternate time line from the original Star Trek series. Nero travels back in time to capture Spock from the future to save Nero's past for a better outcome in the future – Confusion aside however, Star Trek: Zero is just epic. You would be mad not to see this on Blu-ray too. This is why I love movies – to see excellent films like Star Trek: Zero. I eagerly await a sequel, until then I think I'll watch it again!
Live long, and Prosper
Curiously enough I was initially disappointed when I saw the movie in the cinema. I was looking for the more subtle treatment of characters in later versions of the franchise. However I bought the Blu Ray and have enjoyed it more… Aided by the extra background material in the package. It gave me more context on the film and increased my sympathy for the director's approach.
Star Trek seriously needed a reboot and a return to it's traditional values,
personality and edginess and in this it has it.
JJ Abrams et al have really delivered a brilliant example of exciting and
entertaining film let alone a brilliant example of sci fi and star trek.
It's such a spectacle of a film that the high def bluray version is really
worth it not to mention the sweet sound. I really enjoyed the hours of special
features as well. I highly recommend adding this to your movie library.
Classic lame story line, but really enjoyable. It paid homage to the original TV series as well as the Trek movies, but spiced it up by poking fun with some damned dodgy coincidences. Put yourself in the right mind, try not to poke holes in the story and remember that it begins with a change in the time line so they can re-write whatever they want!
Recommend to anyone who has even the slightest interest or remembers the original Star Trek.
Picture and sound are excellent, from the opening shot onwards. Star Trek quickly sets the scene and provides insights into what drives Kirk and Spock as characters.
Casting is pretty much spot on and its clear they enjoyed being on set (blu ray extras confirm this). A highly enjoyable reboot of the franchise with enough nods to prior treks to keep old fans happy, and a good storyline and special effects to entice new fans along for the ride.
Thought this movie was well cast – nice to see Leonard Nimoy have a role! love it.
Sorry, but I fell asleep twice trying to watch this. I am neutral towards star trek, I was expecting an awesome movie but got completely the opposite.
Even Sylar from heroes playing Spok didnt keep me interested!!
