With the release of Star Wars Paramount asked “What do we have thats like that”..... and the answer was 'Star Trek"
Star Trek The Motion Picture on its release had mixed reviews but to a zillion Trekkies around the world it is what they had waited for since the original television series was cancelled after three seasons back in the 60s.
Paramount gave control of the project to legendary director Robert Wise who himself had never even watched Star Trek,Shatner & Nimoy both agreed to return in their famous roles as Kirk & Spock as did the entire original crew, effects legend Douglas Trumbull, responsible for much of 2001 and Star Wars was brought in to create a vision unlike any Trekkie had seen before.
And then there was Jerry Goldsmith, after creating some of Hollywoods most well knowen music scores he did something quite remarkable,he created a new theme for Star Trek that sored as high as the original and most adored original television theme from the 60s,it became the benchmark for the following 5 pictures with the original crew of the Enterprise,as for the Enterprise herself, without a doubt the most famous starship of them all was given a complete makeover,so famous that even N.A.S.A named the first Space Shuttle after her.
The Bluray itself is stunning with incredible 7.1 surround,no joke,,when the Enterprise goes into warp drive your subwoofer is sure to make every window in the house rattle.
The original crew of the Enterprise will always be cherished for setting the standard for those who followed in their footsteps and this is the motion picture that not only reintroduced Star Trek to the world but gave us all a vision of the future that wasnt so doom and gloom as many have
Highly recommended.
