Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome is a 1985 Australian post-apocalyptic film
starring Mel Gibson and Tina Turner. It is the third installment in the action
movie Mad Max series.
Two men enter. One man leaves. That's the law in Bartertown's Thunderdome
arena. But lawmaker Aunty Entity will soon add another: Don't get Max mad! Mad
Max Beyond Thunderdome stars Mel Gibson (Lethal Weapon, Maverick) for his third
go-round as the title hero who takes on the barbarians of the post-nuclear
future – and this time becomes the savior of a tribe of lost children.
Music superstar Tina Turner steals what's left of the screen as Aunty
Entity, a power-mad dominatrix determined to use Max to tighten her stranglehold
on Bartertown. Directors George Miller and George Ogilvie deliver another
rousing final apocalypse-on-wheels and one of the best movie fight scenes ever,
as Max and the gladiatorial Blaster face off with maces, chainsaws and anything
not nailed down inside Thunderdome. Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome: watch and you'll
agree with the soundtrack song that “We Don't Need Another Hero.”
Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome Reviews
“Gibson impressively fleshes out Max, Tina Turner is striking in her
role as Aunty (as well as contributing two topnotch songs, which open and close
the picture) and the juves are uniformly good.” Variety
“Miller unveils some marvellously original cinematic snaps (the lost
city of the feral children; Master Blaster, the dwarf-powered giant; Thunderdome
itself); and if the thrills and special effects lack a little of the punch of
Mad Max 2, there's still enough imagination, wit and ingenuity to put recent
Spielberg to shame.” Time Out
“Miller never falls back on the formulas that have become the bane of
too many recent action films, and his sustained cuts lend a clarity to the
proceedings.” ReelViews
“The third film in the series is met with derision by some. After all,
it was less violent than its previous two installments and sported a supporting
cast of children. However, there is plenty in BEYOND THUNDERDOME that still
holds up against earlier films. The characters are still great and shows a
maturing of society, though not in the ways one would desire. The whole thing
has a slightly more mythic and epic feel than the earlier, grittier films. And
there is plenty of creativity and thrilling action to go around.”

“The performances are superb. The script allows Gibson to bring a
welcome new dimension to the Mad Max character, and the actor rises to the
occasion.” TV Guide
“This third episode in the Mad Max series is by far the most creative,
developing the world much more thoroughly than the first two films had. But for
what?..the story doesn't make any sense, and it mishandles the main
character.” At a Glance Film Reviews
“Disjointed but it still rocks.” Empire Magazine
