Everyone agrees that Avatar is one of the best looking movies of all time,
theres some argument on the strength of the story but an essential film to have
in your collection.
Ive heard however this release will apparantly contain nothing but the movie
that was shown in the Cinema and a ‘Special Edition’ version with extras and
extended footage will be released nearer christmas (im looking forward to Mighty
Ape confirming this or not). If my sources are correct this is disgusting money
grabbing from the studio and an insult. If indeed the case id just rent this
release if you didnt see it in the cinema and wait for the SE version. But
I hope im wrong.
I have seen this movie in 3D and also in 2D 3 times, when I got my Blu-Ray disk I was gob smacked! The sheer clearness of the movie is amazing. This is one movie that you have to get on Blu-Ray!
Seen it at the cinema? Haven't seen it at the cinema? Regardless of which question you answer this is indeed a quality movie and really does look spectacular in hi-def. Immerse yourself in Pandora and enjoy the story which is Avatar.
Although I found this movie stunning in 3D in the cinema, I found watching the blu-ray was much clearer, and less of a strain for the eyes. I personally prefer watching it in 2D.
The lack of special features can be considered a bonus, it left the entire disk free for the best possible quality of image.
If you are patient, there is a special edition coming out at the end of the year which will contain additional footage, and documentaries etc, but if you can't wait, you certainly won't be disappointed with this minimalistic release.
“Dances with Woads/The DragonRiders of Perndora” aka Avatar
Easily the most original screenplay since Police Academy 6. If Cameron has heard of the concepts of originality or character development he has clearly decided he wants nothing to do with either. One, and only one, spoiler to illustrate – the precious commodity the greedy Earthers want to steal from the innocent noble savages is called unobtainium?! Why not be upfront and just call it takeyourcashium? The 3D effects were the best I've ever seen by a long way. I will be generous and as complimentary as possible and say that the movie was banal, cliched to the extreme and trite. Those were its strong points. A race of goodhearted primitives (looking suspiciously lemur-like at times) need saving from evil corporates by a white male ‘intruder’ – if you're going to use a plot SO hackneyed, try to spice it up a bit, please!
I watch A LOT of Hindi films and 160–170 minutes is not out of the ordinary for them. Very few have ever felt as long as did Avatar, possibly because after 20 minutes I'd already written the script, successfully predicting pretty much everything that was going to happen and when. There were several moments that literally made me laugh out loud they were so bad, and the song over the end credits nicely summed up the entire movie – sounding EXACTLY like the truly ghastly Celine dion nightmare ‘My Heart Will go on’ from Cameron's last trip to the bank. Which of course brings up the delicious irony of a movie with a crudely unsubtle ‘greedy capitalism bad, fuzzy gaianess good’ message being the most expensive ever made and raking in the bucks like there was no tomorrow. I will end by stating that, despite the above I did not really dislike this movie, its awfulness was so epic as to be entertaining, and the 3D visuals were stunning.
This movie has great animations and is the future of graphics, the plot however is lacking and half way in you know how its gonna end but great eye candy.
I can not get over how clear this movie is. Compared with other blu-ray movies I have watched this movie wins by far. The picture quality is so clear you would think its the next thing from blu-ray. The movie case comes in a nice sparkly cardboard cover. I had more enjoyment watching this movie at home in Blu-ray than I did at the cinema. This is one of those movies that have to be purchused in blu-ray. It won't be the same in DVD.
This is now my favorite movie of all time. The graphics are just insane and amazing with blu-ray! I have watched this movie 3 times now on blu-ray and i still love it! It touches base on everything!… love, courage, pride, power, selfishness omg the list could go on! If i could give this movie a 10 star rating i would!.. But i cant… SO 5 STARS IT IS!!! :D
I was bedazzled by the quality and experience I got by watching this movie at home. For my parents who had not watched it before they were slapped in the face by the graphics and quality of the movie and what Blu-ray indeed can offer. If you want a reason to get a Blu-ray payer or PS3, I would recommend the later this movie can be a convincing factor for what HD is capable of on Blu-ray.
To put it simply – this is THE movie to show off the quality of Blu-Ray. If you know someone who isn't sold on the idea of going Hi-Definition, all you need to do is show them this movie. Although personally I thought the plot was a little weak and predictable, the visual fidelity of this movie kinda makes up for this short fall. You can just watch Avatar with your brain switched off and enjoy amazing visuals.
I purchased a PS3 just to watch Avatar on blueray. Loved it at the movies, loved it on bluray, sound incredible, no 3D glasses required. Visually stunning, pump up the sound system, scare the cats, rattle the windows, sit back and enjoy.
The room rocked, depth of colour was amazing, sound was brilliant. Best Blue Ray DVD to date.
I literally haven't felt this way about a movie since my first viewing of the original Star Wars. It's brilliant. You must watch it in a cinema that uses the polarised 3D glasses (eg Hoyts). It's so immersive that you feel saddened to be leaving Pandora when you leave the theatre. Yay, and again YAY!
While the film itself is brilliant to watch, be aware that all the extra's we're accustomed to seeing in DVD & Blu-Ray releases are missing – there are no special features, commentaries or even trailers included in this release, which comes as something of a disappointment, particularly if the you have any interest in the behind the scenes work of the film.
Loved this BR despite the obvious holes in the storyline. The detail and brightness of the Blue Ray HD DVD far outweighs the 3-D cinema experience.
Excellent quality Blu Ray. No compromises there. This film excels in 3d vision though.
This movie is fantastic, Visually spectacular, the dialog is a little naff in bits, but the pacing is excellent, and an all around enjoyable action/sci-fi.
As far at the blu-ray version goes… it is stunning, the quality of the sound and picture is the best I have ever seen, if you have a blu-ray player dont think twice about it. worth every cent.
This movie is Crystal clear with ‘amazing’ special affects. It's absolutely BRILLIANT!!!
This was a very entertaining movie with beautiful graphics and good storyline. In blu ray it made the movie look almost as real as being there.
I watched Avatar at the movies a month ago and was blown away be the 3D
effects; so was wondering what it would be like a second time on Blue Ray at
home. I loved it and actually picked up a lot of things I had missed when
I watching it in 3D. The movie is still visually stunning without the 3D effect
and I felt that I probably enjoyed the emotional side of the movie more in 2D
HD.
This is not an art movie and never pretends to be; it is to be enjoyed for what
it is an entertainment movie and it certainly delivers on that count.
If you have not seen it; you should; but make sure you watch it in HD to get the
full visual effect
Despite being a fairly predictable story, Avatar is a fantastic film. The sheer scope of what Camerson managed to accomplish with the CG in this film is mind boggling.
The picture quality and sound are second to none, a definite film to show-off your sound and video system.
Avatar would have been special for any ONE of the following reasons;
Great Story Telling
Great engaging Characters
Awesome Groundbreaking Special Effects
Great Message Movie
Great Action Movie
Great SF Movie
Great Acting of actual actors, actor voice over and CGI characters based on real
actors prompts.
The fact they are already calling this a Classic/must have is because it gave
all the above reasons to make it so.
After you have watched 2–3 times, relive the enjoyment by watching others who
haven't seen it;drop their jaws, cry, laugh, shake their heads, cheer, etc when
they watch it.
One of those you can't go wrong if you give this as a gift. mikeo00

You have to witness this in 3D. It is FREAKIN' AWESOME!!!! I'm going to watch it again cause the visuals are ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!!
