Years ago, I gave up trying to argue the merits of the film with those who find it tedious or plodding. I've come to accept the fact that ‘2001’ is a definitive love-it-or-hate-it flick that will forever split audiences. Still, whatever you may ultimately think of the film itself, ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ will literally haunt your brain after you watch it. In my opinion, every film fan owes it to themselves to experience ‘2001’ at least once in their lives.
Admittedly, ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ isn't for everyone – but in my opinion it's the single most important science fiction film in the history of cinema. It has influenced film as we know it and deserves all of the clout and recognition that can be heaped on its silent shoulders. Likewise, this Blu-ray edition is a must-have release, featuring a jaw-droppingly gorgeous transfer, an elaborate PCM audio track, and a wealth of supplemental features. It's an upgrade in every sense of the word.
One of the most influential movies of last century. fantastic to see it in
hidef at last. Its this and bladerunner that make BRay a format worth getting.
Suprisingly there are people who have yet to see this film, so here is a
warning – it makes F all sense on the first viewing- and sometimes it will
never make sense for some people, but it is a fantastic movie even if the ending
does veer along way into Kubricks “vision” and even Clarke didn't really
understand alot of it. Clarke wrote the story.....
Buy this – 5th element, Gladiator and last samurai and enjoy Hidef for what
it is ment to be. As close to 70mm film as your can get at home – for
now – super hd is already on the way !
When watched on DVD the viewer really cant comprehend what audiences saw at theatres in 1969. This movie, already one of my favourites, is so improved by BluRay that it is an entirely new experience watching it.
Excellent quality, classic sci.fi. Absolutely a must for home collections!
If ever a film was made for Blu-ray, it's 2001 A Space Odyssey, even thought it pre-date the technology by more than a couple of decades. The rich storyline is as enigmatic as ever, but the visuals are every bit as stunning and vibrant as the original theater release. Who can forget that magnificent scene of the shuttle approaching the space station, to the dreamy accompanyment of Strauss' Blue Danube. A great cinema moment.
This Blu-ray version is a must have for any film buff.
Wow, this movie was made to be seen in Blu Ray. Soundtrack & camerawork
that is just stunning.
Love the interaction with ‘HAL’
Don't try to understand what Kubrick is trying to say just get totally lost in
space
