A bit about Mighty Ape

We don't like to boast (much), but Mighty Ape is New Zealand's Best Shopping Site as voted by over 270,000 New Zealanders in the 2011 NetGuide Web Awards.

We've been in business for over a decade and during that time we've earned a reputation for providing a fast, safe, reliable, affordable and fun online shopping experience.

Why you'll love Mighty Ape too

We believe in putting the customer first and have one of the best customer service teams in the business. We delight in ensuring your online shopping experience is a happy one. Shop with Mighty Ape and enjoy 0800 phone support within business hours and 24/7 support via email and private message. We're also active on both Facebook and Twitter.

  • Widest Range

We have over 6 million fantastic products in our catalogue including games, books, movies, home and office products, toys and collectibles, music, electronics and computers. Our best sellers are held in stock in our warehouse in Auckland, with back catalogue products ordered as required from over 120 different local and international suppliers.

  • Lowest Prices

Our business is more efficient than a retail store which means you'll enjoy every day low prices on our entire catalogue of over 6 million products. We also offer Daily Deals, regular sales across entire categories and a couple of times a year our famous all-day Daily Deal Marathons. We'll also price match any of our competitors to ensure you always pay the lowest price.

What our customers are saying

I am just writing to say that your service is fabulous. I have experienced problems with other online services, but never with yours. From now on, I will never use another online book seller, your service is far better. Thank you very much for your continued awesomeness!

Rachel from Wellington, NZ. (February 2012)

I just wanted to say thank you for providing such an awesome and efficient service.

Nikki from Waiheke Island, NZ. (February 2012)

I just wanted to say thank you for prompt response to the problem we had with the item we ordered, our e-mail was answered on a Sunday which we didn't expect and a replacement was sent so quickly. Fantastic! Thank you :)

How Mighty Ape evolved

Mighty Ape was launched in September 2008, but our company has been around a lot longer than that. In fact, many of us have been working together for nearly two decades.

Simon Barton opens GameZone,
a gaming retail store in Symonds
St., Auckland. GameZone hosts a
series of major release events including the official NZ
release of the first Sony PlayStation.

GameZone's first web site is launched as a simple tool to update customers on latest releases, specials, pre-orders and game-related news and events.

The GameZone web site is upgraded to a fully-fledged e-commerce store allowing customers to place orders online using their credit card.

Simon Barton and Simon Garner co-found Gameplanet, a media site publishing game reviews and news and operating community forums and online game services. (Gameplanet is now an independent venture.)

GameZone changes its name to GPStore and receives a major upgrade to the web site including the addition of DVD movies, computer hardware and music. Meanwhile, the retail store on Symonds St is closed and a new store is opened on Dominion Rd with the updated GPStore branding.

GPStore wins the award for "Best Online Store" at the NetGuide Web Awards.

Simon Barton regains the use of his living room as GPStore moves stock into its first warehouse, a small 100m2 unit in Albany, Auckland.

With demand for space rapidly growing, GPStore moves into a larger 210m2 warehouse just up the road.

The retail store on Dominion Rd closes, allowing the company to focus 100% on its ecommerce operations.

GPStore wins the award for "Best Online Shopping Site" at the NetGuide Web Awards.

GPStore relaunches as Mighty Ape with another major upgrade to the web site. The Books department is added, offering over 1 million titles.

Mighty Ape wins the NetGuide Web Awards for "Best Online Shopping Site" and "Best New Site, Relaunch or Innovation".

Mighty Ape moves into a much larger 1200m2 warehouse with space for an expanding team and 100,000+ stock.

Mighty Ape Marketplace is introduced as a way for customers to sell their pre-owned products online.
