The incredible 1/100 Nu Gundam Ver.ka has blasted in from Japan and is shipping now!

Bandai's big Gunpla release is an old fan favourite Nu Gundam as drawn by famous Gundam artist Hajime Katoki. The original Master Grade Nu Gundam released way back in 2001, a lot has changed in Gunpla engineering and the new Nu Gundam Ver Ka is an excellent example of just how far Bandai have come. Key features of the Nu include an all non-ABS plastic frame making it lighter, hidden green psycho frame that is exposed when certain sections of the armour separate, water-slide decals for markings, and the option to build it as a twin Fin Funnel set up!

Bandai Bonanza on now, save up to 50% off RRP! Hobbies

Today we have kicked off some great deals on select model kits from the masters at Bandai. With awesome kits from Gundam to other anime classics like Nausicaa.

When looking for trusted brands in the model kit industry, Bandai is always mentioned in the same breath as other huge companies like Tamiya and Revell. With an uncompromising attention to detail and faithfulness to the source material it's no wonder that since their inception in the early 1950's, Bandai has become a household name and is well known and loved all over the globe for their Gundam and other anime inspired kit sets.

The majority of Bandai kits require no painting or glueing and are as simple as cutting the plastic pieces from the sprue, touching them up a bit with a file (if you want to go the extra mile) and clicking them together. I often choose to go even further and paint my kits for added realism followed by panel line marking and last but not least, weathering to really bring the kit to life.

With savings of up to 50% off RRP, now is the perfect time to grab a kit and get building. Swing by our Bandai Bonanza today and grab a model kit in time for the long weekend!

Perfect Grade Gundam now in stock at Mighty Ape! Hobbies

I recently had the immense pleasure of assembling a Perfect Grade Gundam and my oh my, they are an absolute treat!

At first, the massive amount of parts inside was a bit overwhelming as I have only ever previously built High Grade and Master Grade kits, but once I got going it was rather hard to stop. Typically from start to finish a 1/100 gundam takes me around 4–5 hours but not this guy. He took me a whopping 25 hours to assemble and panel line over the course of an epic three day gundam binge weekend.

I'm very fond of putting Gundam kits together as it is incredibly engaging and feels like I'm using parts of my brain I didn't even know existed. It honestly feels like a mind workout and is both relaxing and challenging at the same time. Typically I would normally buy pre-assembled models but after dipping my toes into Gundam for the first time, have found the reward of owning an awesome model that I've literally poured blood (scalpels are sharp and I'm clumsy :P), mind sweat and tears of joy into is far too awesome.

My Gundam collection/addiction is growing rapidly. Swing by our Hobbies section today and discover this outstanding hobby for yourself. Any tips and tricks that you guys know? I'd love to hear them :D Sound off in the comments below! Lets get some good old Gundam talk happening :)

Gundam vs. Ape: Mighty Ape visits the life size Gundam in Tokyo, Japan! Collectibles Hobbies

I was fortunate enough this week to pay a visit to the Life Size 1/1 Scale Gundam in Tokyo, Japan. Words can't describe how truly epic this thing is!

The RX-78–2 Gundam Replica stands at a staggering 18 meters tall and weighs over 35 tonnes! Each hour the Gundam lights up, starts spewing forth steam and making noises and moves its head around. It is truly epic in every sense of the word!

This truly gigantic Gundam is situated in Odaiba, Tokyo, and will be here until Spring 2013. If you are visiting Japan before then, I highly recommend a visit. It is located in front of DiverCity Tokyo Plaza, which is home to a Gundam goods store, Gundam Cafe, and Gundam Museum!

I was so utterly blown away by this gargantuan Gundam, that I picked up my very first Gundam kit on the spot. I can't wait to put it together and have him keep a watchful eye over me while I work.

Originally launched in 1979, Gundam is truly an institution here in Japan (and now around the world) and has spawned multiple anime series, manga, video games and of course Model Gundam kitsets. Model Gundam Kitsets are insanely popular the world over! Check out Mighty Ape Dan showing how you put one together!

If you want to experience the phenomenon for yourself, why not check out our huge range of Gundam kitsets and pick one up today!

Hot new 1/100 Blitz Gundam in stock now! Hobbies

One of my favourite new Gundams to release this year is the new 1/100 Master Grade Blitz Gundam!

The Blitz is one of five mobile suits created by the Earth Alliance under its G Project during the Bloody Valentine War. Together with the other four units it is stored secretly on the Orb Union controlled space colony Heliopolis.

Designed as an stealth-use mobile suit, the Blitz features several special weapons and technologies. Among the weapons used by the suit are an anchor and a offense/defense system, mounting several weapons. Design-wise, it was unique among the four Alliance prototypes, as the Blitz featured Mirage Colloid cloaking technology that rendered it invisible to both sensors and the naked eye.
