On Tuesday this week we officially launched the Mighty Ape Marketplace, an incredible new way to sell your pre-loved games, movies, books and music.

In the first two days we've seen over 2,000 products listed for sale by eager customers up and down the country, and we couldn't be happier with how things are going.

We built the Marketplace primarily as a venue to sell stuff you've bought on Mighty Ape that you no longer want. Up until now you've been restricted to clunky online auction sites or trading games at retail stores for a tiny fraction of what you paid for them.

When we built the Marketplace we were determined to make it super-easy to list items for sale. Mighty Ape already has all the product data including descriptions and photos…so all we needed to do was create a form that lets you add a price, condition and an optional comment. Listing an item takes about 30 seconds and can be done in half that time once you get into the swing of things. We're really happy with how that turned out.

Another area we wanted to smooth out was payment and delivery. When you sell an item on the Marketplace, the customer buys your items through the Mighty Ape checkout and makes payment with our familiar and secure payment methods such as credit card or bank deposit. When payment has been confirmed, we just send you the buyer's delivery address and you can get on and send the item. No shagging around with emailing the buyer your payment instructions and requesting a delivery address. We handle all that for you.

We also simplified the fee structure. You pay nothing to list your item and there are no hidden extras like Gallery of Feature. We don't charge you extra to use our credit card facility and we don't charge for phone support! You only pay Mighty Ape a 9% success fee when your item sells. That's it. For a $20 DVD that's just $1.80. Because Marketplace items are all “Buy Now” you'll never be hit with any surprising fees, plus because you're selling on one of NZ's biggest web sites for these kinds of products…we think you'll probably secure a great price too.

If you have stuff lying around the house that you'd like to convert into cash we hope you'll give the Marketplace a whirl. What you see at the moment is phase one and we'll be adding many more great features throughout the year. High up on the priority list is the ability to sell items not already listed on Mighty Ape, plus the ability to tell sellers about items not currently listed that you'd really like to buy.

As if the Christmas rush wasn't enough, we're working our tails off to complete the Mighty Ape Marketplace, a fantastic new way to sell your pre-loved games, movies, books and music.

We anticipate we'll be ready to go in the next couple of weeks, but to ensure the launch runs smoothly we've decided to test the Marketplace ourselves by listing for sale over 500 great second hand items. Some games and DVDs may have a cracked case, some books may have a tear in a couple of pages etc but all are priced accordingly and there are some great bargains.

Buying Marketplace items is slightly different from regular items, but it's simple enough, just click “Buy Now” and follow the instructions in the customised Marketplace checkout. The reason for doing it this way will become clear once we open up the Marketplace to other sellers (yourself included!).
