Whether it's a bedroom, playroom or nursery, we've got some great tips to get your creative juices flowing – check out Part One of this blog for some neat Children's Bedroom Ideas

Decorating a Playroom…

If you have the space, and like to keep your children’s bedrooms peaceful and consistently tidy – a playroom is a great way to keep play-mess contained in one area. Most children cherish a space of their own besides their bedrooms, and it also provides a safe, fun place to escape to, well into a child's teenage years.

A playroom should always be vibrant and inspirational, so don’t be afraid go a little wild here and really unleash your creativity when it comes to color. There are many contemporary color palettes that would work well in a playroom, yet still make it feel grown-up enough that the adults don’t feel like they are hanging out in a kid-only space (when they're permitted entrance of course). Think simple bright geometric patterns or a chalkboard feature wall in an otherwise calm palette.

It goes without saying, that every playroom needs ample storage (don't forget to keep this low enough for little arms to reach), and a child-friendly table and chairs. Even if your child rarely sits still, a table can provide an elevated surface for every activity from tea time to Play-Doh to train track building. Try using fun furnishings, like beanbag chairs or floor cushions, to cosy up the space. A fun piece of wall art is another great way to incorporate playful design, while chalkboard wall decals let kids produce their own masterpieces!

Many playrooms eventually become rumpus rooms for the entire family, and this is perfectly okay. But don't forget to always provide space for your little (or big!) one to have some private time or downtime – a teepee in the corner makes a magical reading nook!

And for those of you who don’t have the space or budget for a playroom, keep in mind that although it’s a great way to keep your home organised – you don't need a special room to create a comfortable play space for your child. Simply adding a child-friendly table and comfy rug to a family room can give your little one their own place to play. Here are a few quick ideas for creating a play space anywhere in your home.

  • Add pops of fun color through cushions, ornaments, throws and other small decor items that are easily changeable over time.
  • A coffee table can do double-duty as a play table. If you don't have a table and can't afford a new one, look for an inexpensive wooden table and shorten the legs.
  • Storage baskets and bins with lids can keep toys hidden and can match even the most contemporary of living rooms.
  • Adding a bit of temporary artwork at kid eye-level is a great way to entertain your child. Decals, laminated family photos or even small paintings will easily fit into existing decor.
